What Happens at an Audition?

What Happens At A PMP Audition

When you arrive at the audition please check in at the table by the door.   If you arrive and nobody is there waiting to audition, you may be invited straight into the audition room where the audition panel of 2 to 3 people will ask you to perform for them.  If there is a group of people already there waiting for their turn you can sign up for a time and come back.  We used to take appointments, but spent a lot of time waiting for people that never showed.  So now you have to physically come in a get an appointment.

In order to facilitate seeing all the people that we anticipate at our auditions, you have little as 2 minutes to show your talent. Don’t waste a second.  Introduce yourself by speaking clearly and start performing as soon as you are asked.  Don’t waste you time by talking.  After you sing, the audition panel may ask you a few question.  That will be the time to talk.

Everybody will be asked to sing.  This can be as simple as “Happy Birthday” or as complicated as a Wagner opera aria.  Your choice!  Most successful “auditioners” prepare a short section of a musical theatre piece which highlights their acting and singing skills.  Actors are welcome to do a short monologue, but you will be asked to sing “Happy Birthday” as well.

You may be asked to stop before you are finished.  This is usually a function of time and the audition panel has to move on to someone else.

Dancers and singers will be asked to act.  At some point in time you may be asked to recite one of the nursery rhymes found on the opposite side of this piece of paper while demonstrating an emotion.  ie. sad, happy, frightened, etc.

Baa, baa black sheep

Have you any wool

Yes sir, yes sir

Three bags full.

One for my master

And one for my dame

And one for the little boy

Who lives down the lane

I’m a little teapot

Short and stout

Here is my handle

Here is my spout

When I get all steamed up

Hear me shout:

Tip me over

and pour me out!

Jack and Jill went up the hill,

To fetch a pail of water,

Jack fell down and broke his crown,

And Jill came tumbling after.

Up Jack got and home he trot,

As fast as he could caper.

Went to bed and mend his head,

With vinegar and brown paper

If you are successful through this first round of auditions you will be asked back to the “Call Backs”.  At a “call back” you will be asked to dance.  Yes you will have to show us you can move in time with the music.  You won’t be asked to do a triple pirouette.  But if you want to try, we will be impressed.   A third call back will be posted to determine who will be playing individual roles.

Results:  Call back information will be posted on   http://www.petermacdonaldproductions.com

If your name appears on the call back list you are being asked to come to the call backs.

Because so many people audition for our shows it is impossible to call everybody about the results. We regret this fact and apologize in advance.  If you are unsuccessful this time, please come back and try again.  We thank you for your time.
