Public Performance Opportunities for Young People
We are planning a Pop Song Circle for Friday May 12th and Saturday May 13th and a Musical Theatre Song Circle for Friday June 9th, Saturday, June 10th, Sunday June 11th and Monday, June 12th
2023 Songs Circles provide an opportunity for young people to sing in a public arena with other performers.
Some points to keep in mind when preparing for our song circle.
Things you should know!
Song Circles are a public performance where friends and family are encouraged to attend. It is a public and peer performance opportunity in a non-competitive setting .
$25.00 registration fee to sing in the song circles
Audience admission fee: $10.00
Song circles will be scheduled on Fridays between 5 pm – 10 pm, Saturdays between 11 am – 5 pm, Sundays between 1 pm – 10 pm, and Mondays between 5 pm – 10 pm depending on the availability of the venue.
Location for the Song Circle to be determined. We have 2 locations in downtown St. John’s area being looked at. Discussions are on going.
10 participants per circle. Our aim is to have each song circle no longer than 1 hour. Participants will be organized into common grade levels: ie Students in Grade 4, 5 & 6, in one song circle Grade 7 & 8, Grade 9, 10 & 11, and 12 & post secondary
Participant are required to provide their own accompanists.
After all the performances a guest professional will provide feedback to all the performers via online.

Musical Theatre Circle registration deadlines: May 14th, 2023 Registration opens April 8th
Selection for the pop song circle should reflect the participant who is singing the song in age appropriateness and life experiences. For guidance, a list of approved songs can be viewed here. Each participant will sing 1 song not to exceed 5 min.
Selections for the musical theater are encourage to incorporates all three elements of musical theater; acting, staging/dancing and singing. Disney songs, stand-alone musical theater songs, (cabaret), musical selections from a film and/or stage musical are all acceptable. Not to exceed 5 minutes including introduction, dialogue, setting up sets and props. Participants are encouraged to choose age-appropriate material.
There will be a dress code of no jeans or t-shirts for the performers, except for the Musical Theatre classes, which require costumes.
All performers are required to use live accompanist. Recorded accompaniment is not permitted.
